DIY- Sugar Scrub- Lush Dupe

Hello my beauties!

So here’s the deal. I have THE WORST dry winter lips and skin. I wake up in the morning and my lips feel like they may as well be the sierra desert. No joke. So to combat that I have been making and using my DIY sugar scrub for quite some time now.

I don’t know about you all but I am absolutely IN LOVE with Lush Cosmetics and their all natural skin and hair products. Unfortunately though, where we live we don’t have a Lush and I don’t always have the extra cash laying around to splurge on their products; which is totally sad but has driven me to start making my own versions of their products! This isn’t an exact dupe for their lip scrub but I do feel like I’ve come pretty close with this DIY. It can also save you money because most likely- these are all ingredients you’d have laying around the kitchen anyways!

So first things first – You’re going to need to find yourself a container to store your sugar scrub. I personally prefer glass because once I’ve used up my sugar scrub, it’s just so easy to wash and reuse again. I love these adorable little freezer jam jars by Ball. They’re the perfect size and also have a great plastic lid that easily screws on and off!

I purchased mine at my local Walmart for around $5. They’re currently out of stock online but they do sell them through Amazon for around $15. Personally, if you have a Walmart near you, save yourself $10! I can almost guarantee they would have them in stock at your local store.

Buy Ball Freezer Jars Here!

Now for the ingredients! You’re going to need:

1/2 Cup White Sugar (Organic if you prefer)

2 Tablespoons Coconut Oil

(You may also substitute for olive, sunflower, soybean, almond etc)

2-8 Drops Essential Oil Of Your Choice OR

Your Favorite Flavoring (Imitation is fine)

2-4 Drops Food Coloring (Optional)

Now on to the process!

First pour in your 1/2 cup of sugar. My sugar is just your regular run of the mill white cane sugar. If you prefer to use raw or organic- you totally can! I haven’t personally tried brown sugar but I assume it would work fine. You would probably need to adjust the recipe with a little less oil however, since brown sugar is already slightly moist.

Next plop in your 2 tablespoon of coconut oil. I don’t recommend melting the oil before placing it into the sugar, because if the oil is warm then the sugar will just melt. If you are using an alternative oil, try 1 tablespoon first and then keep adding until the consistency is that of dampened sand.

This next step is completely optional- but I like to add a few drops of jojoba oil to my scrub. I just feel like it gives my lips and body that extra oomph and moisture they need.

Purchase Silk Elements Jojoba Oil Here!

Next up! Add your flava flav (flavor lol). This step you’re kinda on your own and you’re just going to have to play it by ear (or taste/smell). I used my Ribby Rue grapefruit essential oil to give it that delicious grapefruit yum. It took me about 6 drops to get it exactly how I wanted it but with every flavor and of course your personal preference, it may differ.

Now if you don’t own essential oils; have no fear! You can totally use other food flavorings or imitation extracts. You will however end up having to mix the mixture a bit longer because oil and water don’t mix as easily as oil and oil. Just be sure to test your flavor first before mixing it all in! In my lemon scrub (pictured at top of post) I used McCormicks Lemon Extract and it worked like a charm!

BTW- Can you tell I love citrus?!?!

Next! Choose your color. I personally LOVE adding color to my concoctions heh heh (insert mad scientist face). It just gives your little scrubby dubby so much life! For my grapefruit scrub I added one drop of red and one drop of yellow to make a soft salmon-grapefruity pink!

Purchase Food Coloring Here!

Now just mix it all up and place it into your jar or container and you’re done!

Unless of course you’re like me and give them their own photo shoot 😉

DSC_0026-12-2DSC_0019-12DSC_0020-12DSC_0025-12I honestly use this scrub for EVERYTHING.

Its great for softening up your hands (simply scrub and rinse).

Scrubbing your lips (you can scrub and rinse or scrub and simply lick it off your lips). Yum!

Or as a full body scrub in the shower! Although I do recommend turning the hot water in your shower off while you scrub.

Plus- this is a GREAT gift for friends or family!

So, I hope you all love this scrub as much as I do! Let me know if you give it a try and what flavors you experiment with!

Until Next Time! XOXO ❤

Maroon Jumper – Being Thrifty

Hello my beautiful friends!

This week I am still getting over whatever sickness it is that I caught last week. Still have the sniffles, cough, exhaustion and congestion but overall I’m feeling much better! Thank goodness! It’s really been slowing me down as far as keeping up with my IG, the blog  and just life in general.

I am however super excited because today I have one of my FAVORITE recent thrift shop finds! This whole outfit cost me $8. How awesome is that? I’m a total thrift shop junkie. I LOVE going thrift shopping and finding items that maybe I wouldn’t usually grab in the stores. It’s also a total rush to be able to spend $20 bucks or less to find a whole new outfit. But the biggest plus?!? It makes me feel great at the end of the day to know that I am recycling and reusing and doing what little part I can to keep our beautiful world green! ❤

I tried to find a similar romper for you guys but didn’t have much luck finding the exact one! However, if you’re dying for a maroon romper – This one from Poshsquare is TOTALLY adorable and is similar in style!

I actually got my maroon pointed flats at Old Navy in the store ($6) on sale! But if you’re in love with these flats- they are available online right now! Just not as inexpensively. So if you have an Old Navy near you- it might be worth a try to stop in and see if you can find them cheaper in stores! But if not- here is the link!

Hope you all loved this look as much as I did!

Until Next Time!! XOXO ❤

Love Is Sweet

Hello Friends! ❤

This week has felt like an incredibly long one and although I’ve been meaning to post, I came down with a fever that has literally knocked me out for this whole week! UGH 😦  BUT- I was lucky enough that I didn’t get sick until Monday and was still able to celebrate Valentines Day! My wonderful fiance Daniel took me for an amazing surprise weekend trip! We went to an adorable little tourist town about an hour from where we live and boy was it nice to just get away. Daniel being the amazing man he is- brought the camera so I could have some new looks for the blog! What a sweetie pie!

This was my look for our Valentines dinner. I know, not very colorful. But to be honest, I’ve never loved wearing the color red or pink all that much and black just looks amazing for any occasion!

Also, I couldn’t find the exact items I was wearing for you all, but was able to find some VERY similar ones in case you want to buy this look for yourself 🙂 Links are at the bottom of the post.

I hope you all enjoyed this look! And I also hope you all had a wonderful Valentines Day and week!

DIY Microdermabrasion

Hello my beauties! So today I wanted to share with you one of my favorite beauty and skin secrets to achieving a radiant glow! It was probably a couple of years ago that I had looked into getting microdermabrasion for my face. I had heard a lot about its benefits and how it could make you feel as though you had brand new skin. For those of you who don’t know what microdermabrasion is, let me enlighten you! Microdermabrasion is a procedure that exfoliates and removes the superficial layer of dry, dead skin cells. AKA- Out with the old and in with the new! I had seen that so many celebrities would recommend having this done once a week for their glowy radiant skin and I was intrigued! I wanted glowy radiant skin too!!

Now for those of you who are familiar, you probably also know how expensive having it done can be! At $150-$200 a pop, there was no way I would be able to afford that even a couple of times let alone as a weekly treatment. Which is why I ended up doing some research and eventually created my own version of microdermabrasion. I started experimenting with this, first with sand (which I do not recommend lol), second with facial brushes and natural sponges (too rough on my poor face!) and then finally found my golden “ahhh” product!

Baking soda.

Baking soda is the PERFECT consistency and texture for creating your own microdermabrasion scrub and getting into all of those pores and little nooks and crannies. It’s not too soft, but not too rough either. So if you want baby soft skin. Give my super simple recipe a try and let me know what you think! ❤

Baking Soda: 2 teaspoons

Coconut Oil: 1 teaspoon

(If you are allergic to coconut oil you can easily substitute for a different type of oil. However if your face is sensitive to oils- you can also substitute the oil for water instead. Three parts baking soda to one part water!)

Buy My Favorite Coconut Oil Here!

So basicaly it’s SUPER simple. I take two teaspoons of baking soda and mix it with one teaspoon of the oil or water if you prefer! Once it’s mixed into a paste like substance, I then begin rubbing and working it in all over my face. I avoid getting near my eye area to make sure I don’t get any of the paste into my eyes!

Continue scrubbing your face until you feel like you’ve sloughed away the dead skin everywhere. Focus on your trouble areas, if you have black heads or enlarged pores, this is going to be your new best friend! I usually get tired of scrubbing after a minute or two!

Now rinse with some nice cool water to help close up your pores- make sure to keep your eyes shut tight to avoid getting any product in them! I always pat my face dry rather than rub as well, rubbing your face can damage the elasticity in your skin and make you more prone to wrinkles!

Now simply enjoy the pure softness and luxuriousness of your new skin! How easy and awesome was that?! I recommend doing this no more than once a week, as it does really slough away skin!

Let me know if you guys loved this tip and how it worked for you! I’d love to hear your thoughts!

Until next time ❤ XOXO

Generally I tend to steer away from skin tight clothing, mostly having to do with my own insecurities, but I’ve been trying to challenge myself to step out of my usual comfort zones and try new styles and be a bit more confident with my body! Since this was my first bodycon dress, I decided to opt for an inexpensive one and just see if it would be something I could even feel comfortable wearing. At first, I admit I felt a little bit weird. Mostly because this dress would not accommodate any bra I owned. I probably tried on about 10 bras before I just gave up. Secondly, I now understand why people who wear bodycon styles often, recommend buying a pair of spanx. Even my seamless no-show underwear showed through, so eventually I opted for a knock off version of seamless spanx I had purchased a few years ago and BAM, it worked. So if you are planning on purchasing a bodycon style dress, save yourself the time and hassle and just buy a pair of spanx right off the bat.

Now for the dress itself. Once I was past the awkwardness of  going bra-less and trying to find undergarments, I actually did really enjoy this dress. It was soft, warm, very comfortable and I think its quite flattering. However- as with anything skin tight, it will accentuate the parts of you that you may not want accentuated.

Overall: my experience was good, I wore it out dancing and didn’t end up having any troubles whatsoever. PLUS- It was under $20! Right after I purchased this dress they ended up discontinuing this color, but it’s now available in a stunning red, black and green. I’m thinking I may end up ordering another in the army green.  We’ll see ❤ 🙂

Until next time! XOXO

Seasonal Transitions

I find that 99.9% of the time, when picking out what I am going to wear for the day, I honestly always reach for whats simple, easy and maybe even a little bit understated. An over sized sweater, some textured jeggings and a pair of statement heels or boots are one of my favorite fall/early spring and or end of winter outfits. It’s just comfy and easy to throw together in a hurry! Plus there’s the added bonus of not having to carry around a coat or jacket all day and feeling like an overstuffed burrito…..But then again…. Maybe that’s just me lol! 🙂 Either way, it’s warm, comfortable and I would totally wear this out and about, going to run errands or even just snuggling up to a cozy afternoon with my handsome man at home ❤

What’s your go-to transitional outfit for those in between seasons?

Until next time! XOXO

Whats In My Makeup Bag? -Plus Product Reviews and Dupes

So first things first! I apologize that the products are a bit messy and not in the prettiest of condition; but I wanted to show you all some of my all time favorites and most of these products I use on a daily basis (thus the messy look of overuse)! I am going to go through each product and give you my thoughts and what I use it for in the order that I would normally do my makeup! So lets get into it!

Equate strikingly unique moisturizing lotion

MOISTURIZER: So at first with this product I was very skeptical, because I LOVE Clinique’s dramatically different moisturizer so much! This lotion however is from Walmart and I’ve been using it for a good few months now. Honestly, I’ve been shocked by how similar these two products are. It’s a total dupe for the real thing! And the best part is, it was only $12 comparatively to the original’s price tag of $26! It’s a serious steal and I use this daily as my moisturizer before putting on my makeup. The nice thing about this moisturizer is that it is very light and you don’t have to sit with it too long before you apply your primer or foundation!

Nivea Men Sensitive after shave balm

PRIMER: Ok, so I know this may seem a little bit out of place to have in your beauty bag lol! But this stuff is actually a GREAT primer. Its lightweight, glides on and sets quickly and can help your makeup stay on all day long. It also has the perk of smelling like a beautiful man 😉  If you’re looking for an affordable primer that would work with any skin type, this is your stuff right here! Not to mention you get A LOT of product for the price. This thing is going to last me a LONG time. The only draw back that I would say that this product has is the opening. If you’re not careful this comes out of the bottle very quickly and more often than not I end up getting more product than I actually need or could use.

Loreal True Match Foundation

FOUNDATION: (ANGELS SINGING “AHHHH”) This foundation right here. There are no words for how awesome this stuff is! Seriously, this is an $80 foundation in a $10 bottle. You can’t beat the price and you can’t beat the product. It’s thin but has a great medium coverage that is easily build-able to be a full coverage foundation. It wears well and blends super easily. Whenever I am applying makeup to anyone other than myself this is the foundation I reach for because it just works so well with any skin type. There are also SO many different shades and options of warm, cool, or normal undertones. It’s a high end product for a low end price and I would recommend this to anyone and everyone! I love it! Once again though- the only drawback for this product is the packaging. I really wish it had a pump!

Garnier Skin Renew/ Hard Candy Glamoflauge

CONCEALER: These two products are GREAT. Garnier skin renew is definitely my go to for my every single day use. This stuff glides on like melted butter. Its easy to use, its feels nice and cool under the eyes due to the roller, it’s thin, doesn’t ever look cakey and I love to use it to highlight my face. I could rave about this product all day. In my stores it’s not actually located in the makeup aisles though, it’s usually in the moisturizing or facial wash/lotion areas!

Glamoflauge heavy duty concealer is my go to if I am doing a photo shoot. They’re not joking when they say this is heavy duty stuff. It’s a beyond full coverage concealer that will even cover up tattoos if applied properly and I’ve found it to also be a WAY cheaper dupe of the Kat Von D lock it tattoo concealer (which is usually around $24) . I don’t use this on a daily basis because it is a very full coverage concealer, but on days when I’ve woken up with huge bags under my eyes or a giant zit- this is my go to. IT WILL COVER ANYTHING.

NYC Smooth Skin Loose face powder

SETTING POWDER: This powder is great and I’ve been using this powder for years now. I recently went to Wal-mart though and saw that they no longer carry NYC products in my store. So I may just have to order online from now on but I wont mind because you cant beat the prices of these products. I believe this powder is around $3 or $4 dollars. I love to use a loose powder to press under my eyes directly after I’ve applied my concealer and this powder is always my go to!

Buy NYC Smooth Skin Loose Powder Here!

NYC bronzing face powder

BRONZER/CONTOUR: This is my all time favorite bronzer. I use this daily and have loved it for years. I also use this to contour my face as well. It has no shine or sparkle which I feel like is rare for bronzers and it just adds the perfect amount of glowing color. I also like to use this as an eye shadow too! It’s totally versatile and if I don’t have any eye shadow with me this is a great color for any eye color/skin tone out there. I fear the day that they might discontinue this product!

Elf -Shimmer whip

HIGHLIGHTER: These little guys are my happy. As you can see in the picture my poor little white facial whip has been overused and abused lol! In my opinion these highlighters are better than my benefit high beam highlighter. I 99% of the time will reach for these first. The one in white (spotlight) is my favorite- it gives off an amazing sheen that still looks like it could be completely natural. Plus- They’re only $1.

Buy ELF Shimmering Facial Whip here!

Too Faced Chocolate Bar

EYESHADOW: Gifted to me my my AMAZING niece this Christmas- this eye shadow palette is so great! The colors are all super beautiful, pigmented, and it smells like freaking chocolate. You just can’t beat that although I will admit that I did feel a little weird smelling my eye shadow haha! I’ve been using these quite a bit as of late and I’m loving them and the packaging is so cute and feels super durable and sturdy- which is good for me 😉 This palette is a bit on the more expensive side though at $49.

Buy Too Faced Chocolate Bar Here!

L.A. Colors 12 shadow pallete

EYESHADOW: So since I gave you a more expensive palette, I also wanted to give you a cheaper palette as well. If you have a Dollar Tree near you- pick up one of these palettes. They come in a variety of colors but the neutrals are definitely my favorites. These eye shadows are awesome. They’re pigmented, soft, and blend super well. The first time trying these I was shocked by how awesome they are and I can promise you, nobody would ever know that your eye shadow looks were made with $1 eye shadows! The only downside is that you can’t seem to purchase these anywhere online unless it’s in bulk. So if you don’t have a dollar tree near you, find a friend who does and have them send you a few of these!

(Left to Right) Salon Perfect Brow Pomade, Anastasia Dip Brow, Kitty Girl Eye Pencil, Anastasia Beverly Hills Pencil, Mac Brow Shader

EYEBROWS: Ah, the brows. I use quite a few different products on my brows and switch it up fairly often. Some of them are not in this picture. But I wanted to show you guys some more expensive and also cheaper dupes for those products. The first products I will talk about are the pomades. There is the Anastasia dip brow and the salon perfect pomade. In my opinion after trying both for a long period of time- I actually like the salon perfect pomade so much more than the dip brow. My dip brow was great at first, but within about two weeks it dried up into a hard lump of gunk. I also did everything I was supposed to as far as storing it upside down, I even tried to revive it first with eye drops and then with baby oil. It was no luck though. It could be in part that I live in such a dry climate, but either way I would definitely say that it wasn’t worth the $18 I paid. As far as the Salon Perfect brand goes though, this stuff is awesome. So far it hasn’t dried out for me and it stays on all day without any troubles! I’m loving it. The big drawback with this product though is that the color options are very limited.

Buy Salon Perfect Brow Pomade Here!

Pencils! I love using pencils! Above I have the Anastasia Beverly hills brow and also Kitty Girl Eyebrow Pencil. Both are amazing pencils in my opinion but Kitty girl has been my all time favorite as of late especially since it was under a dollar! I do however wish it had a spoolie but I much prefer the twist up liner to the wood pencil. Sharpening is a pain and I always feel like it wastes so much product! I would absolutely recommend both of these pencils to you though! Both are great but if you’re looking for an inexpensive dupe to the Anastasia brand , order a Kitty Girl!

Jordana easyliner

EYELINER: One of my favorite eyeliners. These come in so many great colors and are easy to use and don’t tug or pull at your eye. They glide on perfectly! I love these liners!

Buy Jordana Easy Liner Here!

Rimmel Scandaleyes Retro Glam

MASCARA: This mascara works amazingly for my eyes and eyelashes. I hate the chunky or spidery leg looking lashes and this gives me great volume, length and never looks chunky or stringy for me! I also notice that so many mascaras will start flaking or it’s almost like they’re crumbling off of my eye lashes about halfway through the day. This one doesn’t do that and I’ve noticed that Rimmel’s mascaras in general have all been really high quality and some of my very favorites over time!

Buy Rimmel’s Scandaleyes Mascara Here!

Nivea lip balm and C.O. Bigelow lip shine

LIPS: So for lips- there are so many products but in all honesty I’m not a huge lip stick wearer. Maybe I just haven’t found the perfect one yet but usually I will just go with a great balm or a tinted gloss. These two are a couple of my current favs. Nivea Soothing lip care has been a life saver for my dry winter lips. It smells just like honey and glides on smooth and soft leaving my lips feeling super hydrated.

Buy Nivea Lip Moisturizer Here!

C.O. Bigelow glosses are some of my favorite glosses, the one in peppermint is probably my all time favorite because it tingles my lips and tastes like peppermint ice cream 🙂 The one above is in cinnamint and I love this one as well. It has a slight pink tint to it that gives a healthy amount of color to your lips.

I hope you all enjoyed what’s in my makeup bag! Let me know if you have any questions or suggestion for post’s you’d like to see! Also let me know if you’ve used any of these products and share whats currently in your makeup bag! I’d love to hear about some of your favorite products! Until next time XOXO
